3D Mammography with SmartCurve Technology
The groundbreaking SmartCurve breast stabilization system was designed to change the way women experience breast imaging. Clinically proven to provide a more comfortable mammography experience without compromising on image quality, exam time, dose, or workflow. The SmartCurve system features a proprietary curved surface that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast to reduce pinching and allow better distribution of force over the entire breast.
In a recent clinical study comparing the SmartCurve breast stabilization system to traditional flat paddle compression, the SmartCurve system improved comfort in 93 percent of women who reported moderate to severe discomfort with standard compression. In addition, 95 percent of those surveyed would recommend facilities that use the system.
At Viera Diagnostic Center, our commitment to the highest quality patient care is our first priority! We’re excited to provide the latest in Technology, Hologic’s Genius™ 3D Mammography featuring SmartCurve. Mammograms play such a critical role in the early detection of breast cancer so we’re hopeful that with the addition of the SmartCurve system, we’ll be able to lessen the pain and anxiety associated with mammograms and, as a result, increase screening compliance. 3D mammography is recognized as the best screening tool by The American College of Radiology.
The Genius™ 3D exam allows doctors to examine your breast slice by slice. A good analogy for the Genius exam is like thinking of the pages in a book. If you look down at the cover you cannot see all of the pages-but when you open it up, you can go through the entire book page by page to see everything between the covers, that’s 3D mammography! The review of your 3D mammography study will take place by our radiologist on a brand new, state of the art workstation with Barco Coronis 12MP monitors, the most advanced on the market!
Computer-aided detection (CAD) systems search mammographic images for abnormal areas of density, mass, or calcification that may indicate the presence of cancer. The CAD system highlights these areas on the images, alerting the radiologist to carefully assess this area. Every mammogram performed at this facility includes CAD.
Screening Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancers because it can show changes in the breast before a patient or physician can feel them. As many as 20% of breast cancers will be missed by 2D mammography that’s why we offer 3D mammography to every patient. Women age 40 and older are advised to get a yearly mammogram. Research has shown that annual mammograms lead to early detection of breast cancers, when they are most curable and breast-conservation therapies are available.
Diagnostic mammography is used to evaluate a patient with abnormal clinical findings—such as a breast lump, pain or nipple discharge—that have been found by the woman or her doctor.
Diagnostic mammography may also be done after an abnormal screening mammogram in order to evaluate the area of concern on the screening exam. A breast ultrasound may accompany a diagnostic mammogram.
No deodorants or powders the day of the test. We have wipes for your convenience if you choose to use them before your exam.
